Feng Shui and Money

I recently taught a workshop on Life, Missions, Money and Career from the Feng Shui viewpoint. For these workshops I usually prepare more material than can be taught in the alloted time and allow the rhythm of the class to be set according to the participants and their needs. In this last workshop, however, there were some things we didn't get to address for lack of time that I really wanted to bring up. These materials will be presented in this blog in the month of October.

LIFE MISSIONS

The thought that every person has a life mission may seem to many like just a nice idea or an intriguing concept, however, the ancient Chinese masters knew this to be a Truth. They knew this because they had observed that people who were not following their inner calling developed particular kinds of illnesses.

Dr. Kronfeld , a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine tells me that acupuncturists  educated in the ancient schools can work in certain parts of a patient's body to help the person reconnect with their life mission. Though she will not reveal which parts of the body would be worked on - these are secrets transmitted from master to student for many generations - I did get her to admit that they were related to the path in the body that channels the water element.

The water element in the body rules the bladder, kidneys, bones, ear and it extends to the hair. When it is not balanced, the feelings of fear or guilt appear. When it is balanced we feel, think and act responsibly.

In Feng Shui the water element rules the Career, Life Mission and Individuality Area.

MONEY

Feng Shui means literally "Wind and Water." The term "Wind" is closely related to the Wood element and the Wealth area. The term "Water" is closely related to Money. So in a sense, Feng Shui could be understood to mean "Wealth and Money."

Money behaves much like water. Water soaks and goes down. So does Money, if it is not invested, it goes down in value. Water circulates, money is also called "currency" a word related to flow and circulation. We often hear people say that the money was lost like water through the fingers/hands. We also hear the expression of money being thrown down the toilet.

Water is essential to life and money is essential to survival in our current economical system.

However, unlike water, money has no value on its own. The value of money is symbolic. It represents effort and its value is established by trust.

How do you feel about money? How do you act towards money?

Do you treat money like...

- a hot potato and try to get rid of it as soon as it reaches your hands?
- an elusive lover that no matter how hard you try always turns its nose on you at the last minute?
- "the source of all evil"?

Might it be possible to think of money as...

- a wonderful invention that allows you to trade your skills, services and products for the skills, services and products of your choice?
- an opportunity to express who you are and what your values are in life?
- a reminder that survival in the physical Universe requires you to live fully in present time?

We will explore these issues here. In the meantime, I would love to hear your thoughts on money.
